Allergies???

Henry started with a rash on his back and underneath his arms on Wednesday.  James went and picked him up from the daycare and took him to the doctor.

He was still his happy little self!  He didn't have a fever, he was continuing to eat and drink well, and play like usual.  However, this rash was not normal!

Henry saw Dr. Thompson on this day.  She said that Henry was allergic to amoxicillin/penicillin.  She told James that the rash could get worse, but no worries.

So she sent them on their merry way!

So today Henry woke up like this!!!

Last night he spiked a fever (102.2), didn't eat/drink well, and just wanted his mommy!  By the way, all day Thursday he was fine!  Of course the rash was still there, but no concerns.  So when he woke up with puffy eyes, puffy hands, puffy feet, more bumps all over his body, and a fever still....back to the doctor we went.

Today he saw Dr. White (I really liked her). She didn't think he was necessarily allergic to penicillin. She basically said that this rash (Urticaria, Erythema Multiforme) just kind of happens. However if you google it; it talks about allergic reactions to meds. Dr. White said she wouldn't stop giving him penicillin, but just be cautious in the future.  So it could be the medicine, possibly even food related (he had strawberries recently).  She mentioned not introducing any new foods until the rash was gone.

So in addition to the rash, Henry also has ANOTHER ear infection (left ear). So the doctor prescribed a z-pack antibiotic this round. Plus, oral benadryl for his rash. He began scratching his rash today, so hopefully this will help!

So the rash began on his back and has moved to his front.  The doctor said it will continue to 'move' and will probably last about 2 weeks. (Google says 2-6 weeks!!!)
We go for a follow up appointment in 2 weeks.  This time we will see his primary doctor, Dr. Eidson.  I am sure he will have another view as well.  I think I have figured out each doc has their own opinion!
I also see us visiting an allergy specialist in Henry's future....we will see.

So now we wait for the rash to go away!  Happy eater again and ready to play:-)
